Dr Garry Buettner, PhD professor in the Dept. of Radiation Oncology was honored for his lifetime of scholarship by his inclusion in the Carver College of Medicines "Wall of Scholarship". Criteria for inclusion in the Wall of Scholarship required publishing an article (s) that have achieved a significant impact in their particular subject specialty. This metric is measured by more than 1000 citations through at least two academic citation indices: Google Scholar, Scopus, or Web of Science. Each of these articles has comfortably exceeded this minimum tally.

The three papers Dr. Buettner authored provide essential concepts, tools, and methods for quantitatively observing and measuring free radicals and oxidative stress in biological systems. These tools are critical to scientists’ ability to understand the redox environment of cells and how it influences cellular mechanisms associated with cell growth and development, signaling, and reductive or oxidative stress.

The award was made at a ceremony recognizing the scholarship of 20 faculty from the Carver College of Medicine and was presented by the Dean, J. Brooks Jackson, and the acting Provost Sue Curry.
